Nancy had plans to go in to Elko (the "big town" that is "near" us with shopping available) on Saturday, so I went with her...

As we were getting ready to leave, Steve and Eddie were working on the deck outside Steve and Nancy's home. |

Nancy was going in to Elko to pick up her first "Bountiful Basket". This is a fresh food co-op that she was trying out. A truck brings the fresh food to the distribution location, and then volunteers distribute it into baskets. Nancy and I were to volunteer in the splitting up of the food on this Saturday morning. As we got there, the truck that delivered the produce was just getting ready to leave - and the baskets were all set up on the parking lot in preparation for filling. (http://bountifulbaskets.org/) |

After filling! Veggies on the left, fruits on the right. Each person who pays in a "contribution" gets the contents of 1 veggie and 1 fruit basket. You can contribute for two shares (or more) and get more baskets too. But you contribute in by Tuesday and find out on Saturday what you get. |
|
I think there must have been 60-70 pairs of baskets. We had a fun time helping out, and Nancy got fruits and vegetables for her "contribution". We're not sure that the claim of $50 of value for the $20 contribution was quite met for this week, though. |

A sign I saw while we were in Elko... Nancy and I discussed what "Operation of Recreational Vehicle" meant - we both decided it meant "stopped and being lived in". Otherwise you would not be able to drive (operate) an RV on most roads in Elko. |
I should note that Elko was about 40 miles away from the RV park. Wells, NV is closer (about 7 miles) and has a hardware/auto parts/garden/stuff store, as well as a small grocery store, and what looked to be about 1-2 dozen small closed or re-purposed motels (into rental housing or strip mall type locations).
