A few days ago, I posted a picture of Dwayne on the roof of Miss Doozie...
He had taken the two front fairings off of the roof... |
We brought them down to the ground to make some repairs, clean them up and repaint them. |
Note that the inside of the fairing has a body number - F128750. That is Miss Doozie's number from the factory. Many components in and on the bus are tagged with that number. |
Cleaned up - ready for some repairs. |
There were some cracks, especially around the screw areas. Our friend Will suggested repairing it with a fiberglass repair kit. |
Dwayne had been interested in learning how to do repairs on fiberglass, so he was an eager student. |
After the patching, Dwayne cleaned the surface and applied primer... |
And then the finish color and clear coat. |
After they dried, we took them back on top of Miss Doozie... |
And screwed them down. We got new stainless steel screws, one size larger than the originals, and washers, and put filler into the holes ahead of putting the screws in, in hopes that if any of our leaks were coming through those holes, that we would prevent further water incursion. |
We also got new screws for the walk-plates on the roof and are in the process of replacing them with sealant in the holes and one-size-larger screws as well. We ran out of daylight on this day, but hope to get back there to complete the job. |
