Since we didn't have internet service, we decided to leave Dutch George Campground, even though it was beautiful, on Wednesday. We continued heading west through the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forest, over two high mountain passes and the Continental Divide, finally arriving at the Meadows National Forest Campground just outside of Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

Snowcapped mountains along our way... |

We stopped at a pull off at Joe Wright Reservoir and walked down to view the reservoir - looking to the left... |
... looking to the right... |
There was a tree with what looked like red blooms on it... |
We guess that they are beginning pine cones. |

Snow on the far side of the reservoir |

Along the way... |

This was the highest pass we crossed, just coming out of the Roosevelt National Forest (we stopped and took a picture behind us so, eastbound traffic would be entering Larimer County which we had just left since we were going westbound). |
We were entering Jackson County westbound. |
This was a meadow area just across the road from where we had pulled off to take pictures. |
A couple of days ago I showed Miss Kitty on Dwayne's lap as her normal traveling location - this is her other normal location, under the driver's seat on her rug. |
After that high pass, I was expecting that we would be going downhill pretty abruptly, but we stayed at about 8300-9000' in high meadow land. Dwayne took this picture as we were driving - I really like the view of the road going on and on into the distance. |

There was a place where they were putting fresh "chip" on the road (I had not heard that term before, but that's what the lit up message sign said) and had a flagman stopping traffic and a pilot vehicle to guide us through. We were stopped for about 10 minutes waiting... I played several tunes on our "musical horn" while we were waiting- patriotic tunes ("America", "America the Beautiful", "Air Force Song", "Anchors Aweigh", "Caissons Song", "Marines' Hymn") , then "Country Roads" (I was thinking appropriate for Colorado although it is West Virginia), "Yellow Rose of Texas", "Deep in the Heart of Texas". When we started going, I played "On the Road Again (I just can't wait to get on the road again)" as we were passing the flagman - he thought that was very funny! |
Then we left CO-14 and turned onto US-40, where we soon arrived at the Continental Divide - at 9426'. |

A meadow just to the west of the Continental Divide. |
We are certainly enjoying Colorado!
