Really, Officer, we were just checking tire pressures....

On our way north from Aiken, we stopped off in Columbia (or more precisely, Cayce), SC at the NAPA to pick up an oil sample kit. While stopped there, the Tire Monitoring System issued an alarm that the front left tire was losing pressure. It does this with some regularity when we stop, and I usually just watch it and note that the PSI is staying steady and I don't worry about it. But, this time, the PSI dropped - a little - from 114 to 113.4 - so we decided we'd better take a closer look at it. We had already left the NAPA, so we were looking for a place we could just pull off and take a closer look at the tire. I saw a motel that looked like it had a parking lot that we could make it in and out of, so we pulled in.

While Dwayne was out of the bus looking at the tire, I noticed some folks out in the parking lot talking animatedly. Dwayne thought the tire looked fine, but noted that the hub oil was low, and so he proceeded to add hub oil. As he did, a police car arrived, then another with a policeman in a bullet proof vest, then 3 other police cars.... (one of them left right after it arrived - so only 4 were left in the parking lot with the 3 guys who were talking quite animatedly).
Of course, two of the four police cars chose to park on the route I had planned to use to exit the parking lot...
We debated whether to unhook the Jeep and go out the way we came in, but decided to give them 10 minutes to complete their business. Eventually the police car in front of us left and the other one moved over so he wasn't blocking the exit anymore. It appeared that they handcuffed one guy and that the other two were claiming he had done some damage to their vehicle which was down at the end. As we drove out, there wasn't any obvious damage, but who knows!

When they all started arriving, I thought, "We're only here for a few minutes, really! We aren't planning to park here overnight or anything!" But, they obviously didn't care about the big elephant of a bus in the parking lot... ;-)
