Tired of tires...

I have never paid so much attention to tires before in my life! Those pieces of rubber and steel filled with air that provide the safety of using a vehicle between you and the hard surface of the road... wow... what complex entities they are!

We got a Tire Monitoring System so we could monitor the air pressure and temperature of not only the tires on the Trek, but also the tires on the Jeep. We had noticed that one of the tires on the Jeep had been low and aired it up in Deming, NM. When we were preparing to leave Tucson this morning, it was again low.
It is supposed to have 35# of pressure and was down almost to 21# - the little tire minder also indicated with a red blinking light and the "Pressure" indicator at the bottom that there was a problem.
Dwayne took it up to a tire shop "out in the desert" and they found a tiny pin nail in the area of the tire where the sidewall connects to the tread on the inside of the tire and repaired it.

Unfortunately, it has again lost pressure during our drive today. We went to a tire repair place here in Tonopah, AZ, and they indicated that sometimes it is hard to repair a tire if the hole is between the sidewall and the tread. So... now we're thinking we may need to get new front tires on the Jeep tomorrow.
