Farm auction

Yesterday, we joined my brother in going to a farm auction a bit west of Richmond, in Gum Spring, VA.
Roger Miller Auctions

It was an overcast and sometimes rainy day, but we still enjoyed it.
Before the auction started - some of the lines of equipment in the field.

I particularly liked the look of this 6-basket tedder. Per Wikipedia, "A tedder (also called hay tedder) is a machine used in haymaking. It is used after cutting and before windrowing, and uses moving forks to aerate or "wuffle" the hay and thus speed up the process of hay-making. The use of a tedder allows the hay to dry ("cure") better, which results in improved aroma and color." To me, it looked like a mystical creature, and made me think of the 4 living creatures in Ezekiel.

This hay baler looked brand new, but had script writing on it in an older style. It was to commemorate the 700,000th baler built by New Holland since 1937 (in 2011). New Holland website News

We made one purchase at the auction - of an air compressor to add to the bus - to help in keeping things aired up when the diesel engine is not running. The existing auxiliary compressor is not working, so we were planning to either rebuild it or get a new one. Finding one at the farm auction was great - and finding, once we got it home, that it actually works - that was even better!
