Out and about in the greater Palmdale/Lancaster area - Tuesday 2/9 - Part 2

After driving on the Musical Road, we were north and a bit west of Lancaster. Another site that I had saved was Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve. Unfortunately, I should have done a wee bit more research to find out that the poppies aren't blooming yet... regardless, we drove out there and back - it was a nice drive through a very unpopulated area.

Heading back toward town, we decided to stop off at the Air Force Plant 42 in Palmdale. Again, not having done sufficient research, we found that the displays of aircraft are only open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday... if there are sufficient volunteer resources available to have it open. We could see many of the aircraft from the road and may go back on the weekend.

After having struck out twice, we decided to head toward Charlie Brown Farms. We had passed this on our drive in through Palmdale on Monday. It looked like a kitschy* place, and I wasn't sure it was worth it... but we weren't all that far away, so we decided to head over there.
(*kitschy, adjective, from kitsch, noun, "something of tawdry design, appearance, or content created to appeal to popular or undiscriminating taste.")

We were very glad we decided to go! It was kind of funny - Charlie Brown Farms is similar to Blair Station that I blogged about yesterday except it has nothing to do with RVs. It is rather like a Cracker Barrel Country Store times about 30.

Their website says:
Charlie Brown Farms started out as a fruit stand in 1929. Now located on six acres with one acre of parking, it's been a landmark on Pearblossom Highway in Littlerock, California ever since.

We didn't spend an entire day, but we did spend a couple of hours! We enjoyed a funnel cake and bought some things we thought we could use!

One of the rooms was full of all kinds of sodas.

Dwayne perusing one of three aisles of sodas

Another aisle of sodas

Texas Sweet Peach soda

Kickapoo Joy Juice

Another aisle

Ginger Beer options

Sweet Blossom Lavender flower soda (we bought a bottle of the Rose blossom soda)

Bawls Guarana - supposed to be super high in caffeine

Mint Julep

Mr. Q. Cumber soda

Peanut Butter and Peanut Butter & Jelly soda

A few of the selections of Sarsaparrila
Then there were all the candies... candy options I haven't seen since I was a kid... candy options I never knew existed...
Boston Baked Beans, Dubble Bubble chewing gum, Mary Janes

Bubble Gum and candy cigarettes - I remember we used to get candy cigarettes at the dime store in West Point (probably right after we had visited the dentist!). Pretending to smoke them... red coloring at the end to show that they were "burning". I'm sure that's not something parents want children doing nowadays!

Watermelon Power Belts? Haribo Gummi Frogs?

Yellow & White Marshmallows - it looks like they might be dealing with problems with the marshmallow harvest out here too ;-) - you may want to see previous blog post from December http://trekincartwrights.blogspot.com/2015/12/the-challenges-of-marshmallow-farming.html
A trip to the grocery store completed our day - lots of driving around, and we enjoyed the "greater Palmdale/Lancaster area"!
