Trying a different route and what we found...

As we planned to leave on Sunday, I wanted to check a different route to get us back to US 50... the route we drove in was narrow and windy and had low trees. On googlemaps, it looked like there was a route 49 (the road that is right in front of the campground) that also went to US 50, and was marked on the map in a yellow color that looked like a bit more major road. So... we decided to drive it in the Jeep to US 50 on Saturday to see if it was better than Lotus Road, which we had taken in... short answer: it was not better (much more curvy and up and down), but, it was an interesting drive!

Along the way, we saw signs for an orchard that had fresh baked pies... which we could not resist! (My honey is a huge pie fan!)
Hooverville Orchards was about a mile off of route 49...

They had fresh fruits, including these Tropical Asian Pears (that were not shaped like any pears I've seen before). Some of them were grapefruit sized! ....

And they had fresh pies - YUM!

Some of the orchards...

Some more of the orchards...

Look what came home with us!?!?! Apple, Blackberry, Peach pie!

Also some fresh fruits - mandarins, Fuji apples, and a few of the Tropical Asian Pears to try them out!

We each had a slice of the pie and it was YUMMY!
Just a very short distance from the campground, route 49 goes through Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park. We did not stop, but after getting back to the campground (and based on some signs we saw), we found that this is the location of Sutter's Mill, where gold was found in 1848 and generated the gold rush to California! (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marshall_Gold_Discovery_State_Historic_Park) So... that river that I blogged about that runs by the campground and which we could park near is the river where gold was discovered - neat, huh?
