From Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel up the Eastern Shore of Virginia

(Patti writing) I thought I should document how we finally exited the stop-over on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (CBBT). As I documented before (http://trekincartwrights.blogspot.com/2016/06/chesapeake-bay-bridge-tunnel.html), we stayed overnight and had found a person who gave us a phone number to call when we were ready to leave as they would stop traffic for us.

Miss Doozie in her overnight parking spot

I decided to walk down to the southbound exit area so I would be aware of what it looked like to make a left turn.

Lots of signs saying not to...

There's the intersection - more "no left turn" signs

Shouldn't be a big deal as long as no one is coming!

This side of the area had only 3 hour parking - but I guess it wasn't controlled overnight.

Miss Doozie is on the other side of the highway/tunnel from us in the "18 hour" parking area.
Dwayne called and told the person that we were ready to leave (note to self, whoever is driving needs to make the call because it wasn't totally clear what the person had said and the driver needs to be comfortable with the instructions). Dwayne understood the person on the phone to say to proceed to the Southbound exit. When we got there, there was a car holding up traffic, but it appeared to be so that a vehicle was allowed to go through the tunnel by themselves - maybe they were wide or carrying a hazardous cargo. At any rate, when the traffic started going, the first vehicle after the control vehicle was a tractor-trailer and he waved for me to go in front of him.

The tunnel is a two lane tunnel with two way traffic. Let's just say that any tunnels in our future will be driven by Dwayne. The height of the tunnel was high enough for our rig, but the whip antenna on top hit a lot (I don't know if there were beams or whether it was bouncing up and down). Dwayne said that it was just saying that the ceiling was up there - I think that was supposed to make me feel more comfortable... it didn't really help! And there was another one too... but we made it through both of them and didn't damage Miss Doozie or any other of God's property:
Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power
    and the glory and the majesty and the splendor,
    for everything in heaven and earth is yours.
Yours, Lord, is the kingdom;
    you are exalted as head over all.

 We knew that we would need to dump and decided to stop at a Thousand Trails park on the Eastern Shore of Virginia - Virginia Landing in Quinby, VA. It turned out to be a bit of a drive down road that was about 1 lane wide, but everyone we met gave way to us - they pulled off the road onto the side - we weren't sure that the dirt shoulder would hold up under Miss Doozie's weight. They were all smaller than Miss Doozie except for a huge spray rig that we met - Dwayne thought that the spray rig may have been able to go over top of us, but he pulled off to the side instead.

Virginia Landing - pretty spot - somewhere we should come back to!
