We had checked GasBuddy a few days ago (when we were moving from Lake Whitney to Lake Conroe) to see if the fuel prices were better away from the interstates. Dwayne had identified that a couple of stations near Ennis off I-45 had the best prices at that time. When I checked last night, I found prices near where we were staying at Willis, TX in the $2.35 range, and some places heading north on I-45 at $2.55, but at Ennis there was a station indicating $2.19 and just north of Ennis in Palmer one at $2.18. I checked accessibility for the bus using GoogleMaps satellite view, and the station in Palmer looked like it would be very easy to get in and out of... so we set the Garmin to take us there.
Even as we were pulling in, I was dubious... noting that they had diesel pumps out front I said, "If the price on the ones in the back is higher, we can come around and get to the car island at the end without a problem." But... the price was $2.169 at the truck diesel pumps in the back. "Fill 'er up, please!"

They had a big sign that I could see from way down the road, well before the exit. Why weren't *all* the trucks stopping here? |

Buying 118 gallons at $2.169 saved us $46 over the $2.559 price at Pilot. |
We also realized that the last time we filled up was in De Leon, TX, in March. A month and a half between fill-ups on Miss Doozie - I think that's a record for us! A good way to reduce our expenses, that's for sure!
