A long driving day

We have plans to take the ferry from North Sydney, Nova Scotia, to Argentia, Newfoundland tomorrow - or, we'll at least start the journey tomorrow, Lord willing. The ferry trip is 14-16 hours, and we are scheduled to depart at 5pm Atlantic time. We'll be arriving at Newfoundland time, which is evidently 1/2 hour ahead of Atlantic time, and 1.5 hours ahead of eastern time. We will be confused the whole time we are there... just count on it!

It was a pretty drive today - so many beautiful bodies of water...
Looking northwest as we crossed the Canso Causeway toward St. Georges Bay

The sign over the bridge says "Welcome to Cape Breton" - Cape Breton Island is the northwestern part of Nova Scotia.

We stopped at an overlook as we came over Kelly Mountain - this is looking over Great Bras d'Or Channel that connects Bras d'Or Lake to the North Atlantic.
I found it interesting when I did a search on Kelly Mountain (to make sure I had the correct name), I found a traffic camera which allows users to check whether the route has been plowed of snow: http://novascotia.ca/tran/cameras/cameradetails.asp?id=Kelly%27s%20Mountain

We were heading for that bridge - after a long downhill and a couple of very sharp turns.

We stopped to fill up Miss Doozie - she was only about 1/3 down, but we've learned it is better to do it more frequently and not worry. While we were at the station, one of the Marine Atlantic ferries came in - we'll be taking a Marine Atlantic ferry tomorrow, but it may be that the one we are to take is on its way overnight from Newfoundland.

The price of gasoline is more than diesel! That's the way it should be! Those prices are in Canadian dollars by the liter. Dwayne figured that we paid US$2.87/gallon. We had looked up the fuel prices in Newfoundland and they were above CN$1 per liter, so we decided that filling up in Nova Scotia was a good plan.

We are settled in for the night at the Walmart in Sydney - there is a Home Depot next door and Canadian Tire (which sells a LOT more than tires!) across the street.
We need to arrive at the ferry terminal between 11:45am and 3pm tomorrow, Sunday. We hope to listen to the live stream of our church service before heading over there, if we can correctly determine the time to tune in!  ;-)

We will not have internet access while on the ferry, so probably will not have a post tomorrow night unless I get it done before we board. Hopefully we'll have network connectivity in Newfoundland and we can tell you all about the trip once we get there!
