We took a "gander" at Gander's North Atlantic Aviation Museum

We left St John's driving west today. We have two more weeks to see as much of Newfoundland as we can!

Miss Kitty was draped over Dwayne in bed this morning to try to prevent him from getting up - she isn't particularly fond of travel days....

We stopped at an overlook at Clarenville. The sign from the Rotary Club informed us that it was a Canada Goose Sanctuary....

If the Canada Geese have this pretty a sanctuary...

Why do they come to all the places in the US and become such a nuisance?

As we traveled, we had our new Instant Pot making beef stew (it is in the kitchen sink to ensure that it doesn't fall off a counter).
At "Joey's Lookout" we overlooked the town of Gambo and Freshwater Bay. This bay ends in the north Atlantic.

We had called and the North Atlantic Aviation Museum in Gander had said that they had parking space for a motorhome and that we were welcome to spend the night if we wanted to - so we pulled in and stopped to view the museum and spend the night. We'll need to wait for a few cars to leave to be able to get Miss Doozie heading back outwards...

Inside the museum we saw a Link Trainer; Dwayne had been able to use one of these when he was training in Dallas.
We saw the cockpit of a DC-3.

There was a very neat display about the welcome that the folks of Gander gave to the "plane people" - 38 commercial flights with about 6700 people were diverted to Gander (population about 10,000) on September 11, 2001.
Check out the story as told by ABC: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AxaxrlusQC8

A quote from Gander's mayor: "If there's one legacy that we'll be known for, it's that there are still good people left in the world. Love and compassion will trump hatred and violence every time."

Samples of some of the letters of thanks sent to people of Gander from all over the world.
After we finish eating some our beef stew (using some of the stew beef from Poplar Springs cattle!), we might disconnect the Jeep and drive around and "gander at Gander" a little more... ok... I'll stop using that phrase!
