The last couple of times we hooked up the Jeep (well, when we hooked up at Pilot Knoll in the DFW area, and when we checked lights before leaving the Walmart in Rockdale), we had had to adjust the plug at the front of the Jeep to get the lights all working... so we were concerned that there might be a loose connection. We had a 4-point connector that we had purchased a while ago, so Dwayne decided to swap out the old one for the new one yesterday.
Today, we decided we should make sure that the lights all worked on the Jeep before we needed to pull out tomorrow. There was no one parked in the site next to us, so we decided to drive the Jeep down beside the bus and hook it up to check lights.
Well... the new connector didn't fit into the plug that was on the Jeep. Who knew that there would be different sizes??? It was less than 1/8" larger in diameter, but that was plenty to keep it from going into the connector on the Jeep.
Thankfully, Dwayne still had the old connector (he thought that it might be handy if we lost screws sometime down the road), so we took the "new" connector off and put the "old" connector back on, with one of the screws from the "new" connector as one of the old screws would not tighten very well.
We checked the lights, and they aren't all working exactly correctly - the brake lights work ok if the turn signal is not on, but when the turn signal is on, the brake light does not work on the side of the Jeep where the turn signal is on. We've decided to go with it for now (knowing that vehicles traveling behind us are able to see the lights on the back of the bus as well as the lights on the Jeep), but we really want to get this fixed at some point. I'm wondering if we really need to replace all the electrical wiring from the wiring that goes into the splitter in the engine compartment all the way to the Jeep. We've never had the upper brake light on the Jeep working, and I think we should be able to work that out, but maybe with some altogether different connections.
ARGH! It seems we have more issues with the connections with towing than with anything else motorhome or Jeep related!!! One day it will be all fixed and we'll be so happy not to have to worry about it anymore!
