On our evening walk... -- edited...

Edited with corrections as supplied by niece Ginny "Reading up on your blog this evening, I noticed you had a picture of a prickly pear cactus "blooming" in the "On our evening walk" post.  I'm assuming you are referring to the purple-pink things on the cactus, and wanted you to know that those are actually the fruit of the prickly pear cactus. They are one of the desert tortoise's favorite foods.  Maybe you've heard of or seen prickly pear margaritas at restaurants?  That's what they are made of, the fruit of the prickly pear!  It's a little odd to me that there is still fruit on that particular plant, but maybe Yuma has different time frames for blooming and fruit setting than here.  In Tucson, they usually bloom in late spring into summer and set fruit summer into fall.  Here's a link about the prickly pear cactus: http://www.desertusa.com/cactus/prickly-pear-cactus.html"
Thank you, Ginny!!!

At about sunset we took a walk through our neighborhood...

Edited: A prickly pear cactus has fruit on it in a yard about a block away. Where we are parked is called "Cactus Blossom RV Retreat", but I haven't seen any cactus blossoms this year. This house is one of many that are for sale.

That's Dwayne way down there ahead of me - an uncommon sight as usually I am the one in front! But I stopped to take a picture...

Bougainvillea in front of another house (also for sale, or maybe for rent).

The area we are in is called "Foothills" - we are between Foothills and Fortuna. You can see the foothills in the distance.

These signs are common throughout this neighborhood...
We have not really noticed that the road surfaces are any worse here than anywhere else ... maybe they are just warning that they will only get worse and there is no budget for improving them?

I noticed this older pickup truck in a yard...

Another view of the pickup truck - thought Jimmy might enjoy seeing it!
