I remembered that my former co-worker, Jerry, and his wife, Rose, had moved back to Indiana after he retired from IBM... so I checked with another friend, Marilyne, to find out the precise town. She gave me contact information for them, and we arranged to visit them on Saturday after we left the area around Elkhart.
Honoring Gary, and remembering his amazing ability to locate and love hole-in-the-wall delicious places to eat, we decided to eat at Ivanhoe's in Upland, IN.

Jerry and Rose had introduced Gary and Marilyne to Ivanhoe's, and it was a place that Gary would want to go whenever Gary and Marilyne came through Indiana. |

I took this picture after the line that had totally surrounded the dining area had worked its way down. The order area was up at the window and then they called your name to come when your order was ready. |
Dwayne and I shared a breaded pork tenderloin sandwich - one of the specialties of this area and this restaurant - and strawberry shortcake. We also had to try one of the 100 different varieties of sundaes that they had on their menu!

Back at Jerry and Rose's house |
We had SUCH a nice visit with Jerry and Rose - it seemed that the years just melted away since we last had been together. We're glad to know where they live now and hope it won't be long before we are back through Albany, Indiana and able to visit them again!
By the way - we had a discussion of the term "Hoosier" and its origin. Jerry shared that there is debate about where it came from - and shared a couple of possible stories - which can be found in the Wikipedia article here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoosier
Something I found interesting in the Wikipedia article:
On January 12, 2017, the Federal Government officially changed the
nickname of people from the state of Indiana from "Indianans" to
"Hoosiers", making Indiana the first state not to have a version of
their state name in their nickname ("Illinoisans", "Texans", etc.).
Interesting, huh?
