On the grounds, there was a display of "State Stones" - "As a tribute to President Franklin D. Roosevelt, each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia contributed a specimen of native stone for a memorial. Beautiful in color, finish and design, there are many different varieties of stone. The collection was completed in 1959."

| The Texas state stone was Red Granite, and the plaque indicated that the state motto was "Friendship" - neither Dwayne nor I knew anything about that being the Texas state motto. |

| The state stone of Virginia was indicated as soapstone, and the motto, "Thus to tyrants" (Sic Semper Tyrannus - it is also on the state flag - I knew that motto!) |
