Further North

We left the Seattle area today and have headed further north, into the area of the North Cascades National Park.
For a glimpse into my sweetie's strange sense of humor, I took a picture of this area as we left the campground in Monroe... he asks... "If this is 'Yurt Parking Only'..."

"Why did someone park the yurts over there?"

We stopped at a Walmart in Arlington (Washington, not Texas or Virginia) to shop - Miss Kitty was enjoying the sunshine on the front dashboard...

"Oh wow, this feels great!"

"Thanks Mom for parking so I could get some sunshine!"

"Aren't I just sweet looking?!?!?"

Dwayne didn't think that Miss Kitty was pampered enough... so...

He got her a kitty bed in Walmart... She wasn't particularly interested...

Until I started brushing her when she got in it...

"Let's get back to the brushing please!"

"You are supposed to be applying that brush to my body, please!"

We headed on up I-5 and then east on Washington 20 towards Concrete, Washington, and arrived at Grandy Creek KOA/Thousand Trails campground.
We got settled into a site (water/electric only, all the full hookups for Thousand Trails members were taken) - the sites here are kind of hard to locate - they are not really delineated with a parking pad - you find the electric/water box and then figure out how you're supposed to position your RV to access them.
But it is a very nice wooded campground,

Even the stumps are pretty!

And Grandy Creek runs along one side...

A nice burbling creek...

With nice trees around it.

In the Family Lodge, I found the events for this weekend... Uh oh, this Saturday is "Cinnamon Roll Saturday"... I am pretty sure that is NOT on our diet!

A view of the Cascades as I was walking around the campground.
We drove into Concrete and visited the Information Center on the Baker River dams...
We walked over to the overlook of the fish trap, but did not see any fish in there. It sounded like, from the information in the visitor center, that they trap the fish and then carry them by truck up or down stream.

Bridge over the river at Concrete.

Information plaque at the visitor center

We're looking forward to enjoying this area of the state over the next few days!
