Leavenworth

A drive a little further west and a little further north brought us to Leavenworth, WA, today.

Friends Rick and Jackie, whom we met at the Thousand Trails campground near Newport, WA, had told us that Leavenworth used to be on the railroad, but, the railroad re-routed and bypassed the town. Instead of rolling up their sidewalks and dying, they re-invented themselves as a Bavarian town. We got a taste of it as we drove through town on our way to the campground. We hope to go back to the town tomorrow to see more of it.

When we were just a couple of miles from the campground, we were stopped at a construction area.

The flagman (you may be able to see him in the rearview mirror) told us it would be a 20-30 minute wait... so we shut down Miss Doozie and fixed some fruit to eat!
Eventually, the guide vehicle led us through - it turned out that the end of the construction was right at the entrance to the Thousand Trails campground.

We got checked in, were able to get into the last available 50A full hookup (water, electric, and sewer) site, and have gotten set up.
All the 50A sites are in this one area of the campground, as are the full hookup sites... so we have a lot of close neighbors, and the rest of the loop is pretty empty... gives us the opportunity to meet folks! Not as nice a view as in Quincy (no river to see), but nice evergreen trees all around, and a LOT less smoke! It is quite dusty though - and very dry. Hopefully no one decides to set off fireworks or anything else that could ignite the tinderbox.

  2. You are welcome!!! I hope the smoke is all gone and that there are no new fires by that time!
