After Six State Rally, we had been invited to join the
Coaches for Christ rally being held in Durant, OK. We had found out at the
Texans on Safari Rally that Smitty and Mary Helen would also be going to the
Coaches for Christ Rally.
After hooking up our tow vehicle at the fairgrounds, Dwayne
drove the first leg to the Texas State Welcome center, just a few miles away.
Since I wanted to get more experience driving, I took over at that point, and
drove the rest of the way to Durant. This was a really good experience as we
drove part of the way on the interstate, and then a long ways on US highways.
We stayed at the Choctaw Casino KOA RV Park in Durant. It
was really NICE – the facilities where we met for the rally were really nice,
and it had wonderfully clean and well maintained restrooms and laundry
facility. I made use of the laundry on early Monday morning before any other
activities started.
At the rally, we had a great combination of planned time and
free time. We had three different folks share morning devotions (one each
morning) – it was nice to hear from each of them. This chapter makes lap quilts
with Bible verses from different members to share with folks who may be going
through a tough time, so we participated by making a couple of squares for that
endeavor. One of the nice “getting to know you” activities was that half of the
members had their names put into a basket, and the other half pulled out a name
– so we went out to lunch “two-by-two” – two couples together. It was a great
way to get to know another couple better.
Ultimately, we decided to join this chapter also. There is a Coaches for Christ chapter in each of the areas. We are
hoping to participate in the national Coaches for Christ rally next July in Wisconsin, which will
precede the FMCA national rally.
