After we had purchased our motorhome, Glenn encouraged us to join the chapter of folks from Texas who own Safari motorhomes, named "Texans on Safari". Since Safari stopped making motorhomes a few years back, the chapter now has folks who own a Safari motorhome or who used to own a Safari motorhome, or who know someone who own a Safari motorhome... etc.
They had planned to have a rally preceding the Six State FMCA rally, but the rally hostess had had an unfortunate accident in tripping over one of the boxes of materials preparing for the rally and breaking her arm! There was a need to have a business meeting of the chapter, however, to keep their FMCA charter in place, so the president of the chapter called a "no-host" rally for Murchison, TX just before the Six State rally.
We were excited to meet up with other folks who owned Safari motorhomes, and were hoping to meet others who own a Trek. When we arrived at the campground, and checked in, a guy offered to escort us to the area where the Safari group was gathering, and as we followed him, we saw 3 Treks in a row, with an empty space between the last Trek and a larger Safari motorhome in the next spot, so we pulled in there. We were almost immediately greeted by some of the other Safari owners there and looked forward to getting to know everyone better.
Since this was our first rally, we didn't know what to expect whether it was "hosted" or "no-host". We had a great time getting to know people and having the opportunity to look inside the Trek of one of the other couples there and seeing all the changes they had made to it. This was Rogers and Haazra's Trek; it is also a 2004 model, though with the front bedroom/living area and back bathroom that is more common to the Trek. They had bought it new in 2004, and Haazra has done SO MANY neat things in it - it was wonderful to see! She gave me many ideas of things that we could do to make our Trek more livable - just little things like ways to keep things contained on the countertops when the coach is moving. They also had some custom cabinetry done by Davis Cabinets in Oregon, the folks who originally built the cabinets in the Safari coaches.
In the evening, we would have "happy hour" with everyone bringing their own drinks and whatever snacks to share (we will know to bring things that we could share for future rallies!). Some additional folks came in for the business meeting on Saturday, so we got to meet additional members of this chapter.
I really liked the fact that there were not many scheduled events at this rally; it gave us a lot of time that we could spend with other couples and talk with them more about what they liked about using their motorhomes.
