As we prepared for the time when we would retire, we wanted to be faithful with our time. We had long considered moving to a foreign country when we retired, that God would have a purpose for us there. However, that just did not seem to be the way that God was leading us.
Considering that travel seemed to still be in the plans, and realizing that travel with our kitties was challenging (they get really freaked out moving in and out of hotel rooms), we started looking at motorhomes. (My brother said, "Do NOT tell people you got a motorhome for your cats; people will think you're strange!" -- but we did!)
In the spring, we went to look at a Safari Trek south of Fort Worth. The price was good, the unit looked to be in good shape, and we had found a wonderful online forum of folks who own Treks and are very active in helping folks who are interested in them or who own one. http://www.nwtfc.com/forum/portal_content.asp
While it turned out that specific Trek was not the one for us, seeing it made us more interested in looking at motorhomes and how a motorhome might fit into our retirement. In June, multiple things occurred that made us start looking more aggressively:
1) We found a really nice Trek for sale in Virginia on Craigslist. Added to this, my brother, who is the greatest mechanic I know, lives in Virginia and could look at the Trek with us.
2) We got in contact with a wonderfully helpful guy who lives in McKinney who owns the same model of Trek that was for sale in Virginia.
3) We decided to try renting a motorhome to see if we liked the motorhome life.
