Further west on US 180

Last evening, Dwayne built a nice campfire!
Getting the campfire lit...

Enjoying the peace at the campfire at the lake.
This morning, Dwayne took the Jeep into town to get some maintenance completed, and I had a visitor at the bus...
A cardinal was sitting on the mirror....

Singing and chirping away... -- and previously he had pooped too -- you can see evidence on the mirror....

He thinks he is quite handsome!

The view out through the marsh to the lake.

When Dwayne got back from town, the cardinal seemed to think his long lost red relative had returned!

"What a pretty boy am I!"

"Just look at that pretty bird!"
"I wish I could get into the mirror with him!"

We were able to get away from the campsite before he pooped on the Jeep mirror....

Heading west on US 180 -- it is a nice road with broad shoulders and passing sections every few miles. There's so little traffic that any cars that got behind us could easily pass.

Driving along the brick lined streets in Breckenridge, Texas.

I didn't get my camera up soon enough to get a picture of the sign I was trying to get...
So I got this instead, the "Hereford Motel" - just before this was a sign indicating "Home of the Hereford".
We were in Albany, Texas, and evidently ranchers here were instrumental in encouraging the Hereford breed about 100 years ago! https://www.texasmonthly.com/travel/little-town-on-the-prairie/ I should have done some research *before* we drove through - it sounds like it would have been an interesting place to visit!

Beautiful land heading west...

We stopped at a rest area to eat lunch...

Beautiful wildflowers around the rest area...

There were even a few bluebonnets still in bloom (a little late for them).

The roadsides had been covered with these flowers - maybe Brown Eyed Susans?

Again, I didn't get a good picture, but this was to remind me that we drove through Anson, Texas - where there's "No Dancin' in Anson" except for the Cowboy Christmas Ball. Some say that the movie Footloose was based on Anson's "No Dancin'" ordinance.

After traveling past Snyder, and going up some in elevation, we are now back on the Llano Estacado with beautiful crop lands all around us.

The operator of that large piece of equipment ...

... Appeared to be doing something on his phone as we passed by!
We've stopped for the night (or maybe two or three) at the City Park in Lamesa, Texas. They have 8 or so sites here with 30A and water hookups, free for up to 4 nights, donations are allowed.

For tonight, there are 3 rigs here. The one next to us is a Safari Trek (the brand that we originally purchased back in 2014 when we were first starting out!).

The sites to the west end are flatter and longer which is good for us. They are marked off quite wide, so plenty of room for the Jeep next to Miss Doozie.
We're looking forward to spending a couple of days here!
