West to New Mexico

We made it to New Mexico today!

First... a picture from sunset last night in Lamesa... I forgot to mention that we learned (at the National Day of Prayer gathering) that Lamesa is pronounced "la-mee-sa" -- So when you read this, make sure you say the name correctly in your mind!
Driving across this area of west Texas...

Driving across the farmland of west Texas, I noticed that the mailboxes are installed differently than they were in the country in Virginia where I grew up...

The mail carrier as well as the owner accesses the mail from the "ditch" side of the mailbox... not the street side. Now, this may have been the case because we were on US 180 and it is a relatively busy road (not that you could determine that from the amount of traffic you see in the pictures!). Also, the land is very flat and there is space to the side of the road for an additional driving area.

Ah! there's the traffic!!!

Miss Kitty settles herself on the lap of whichever person is in the passenger seat...

We arrived in New Mexico this afternoon! Funny thing that happened: I have an alarm set to feed Tabitha at noon - it had gone off a while before we got to New Mexico, but then my phone automatically set the time to mountain time, and it went off again!
We came in near Hobbs, NM, came through Carlsbad, and are now in Lakewood, NM, just a little ways south of Artesia.

Recognition of one of the frontier settlers.
