We stopped at a couple of rest areas - there was one service center at the point where I-295 joined I-95 north of Portland, ME. They had a nice shop with Maine-made items; we didn't buy anything because buying anything means we have to get rid of something we already have... Patti would have liked to take pictures of several of the items because they were so unique, but there was a sign on the door asking that no pictures be taken... :-(
We did see something interesting that Patti thought her brother might be interested in... Bigfoot of Maine "The Indoor Overshoe" - http://www.bigfootofmaine.com/ - she almost got a pair - she'll check with him to see if he thinks they would be useful! But, maybe Walmart bags do just as good a job...
Outside the service center were some statues.
There were lots of signs on the roads cautioning about moose, but this is the only one we saw. |
Cute bears outside the service center - the signs encouraged taking pictures but asked that you not touch. I can't imagine children seeing these cuties and not climbing on them! |
The only downer was: we had just paid a toll on I-95; we got off for the service center, and when we got back on going north, the signs (and the Garmin) took us to I-295 - the very end of it - and there was a toll there before we joined back up with I-95. I'm pretty sure we would not have had to pay that toll had we stayed on I-95. But, we needed a break, so that was the price we paid!
We're settled in at the Ellsworth, ME WalMart; tomorrow we will go to our campground in Trenton, ME for 5 nights.
