Travel to Finger Lakes region of New York

We made a rather long drive today - we had originally planned to split it into two days, but since Patti got confused about the date we were supposed to leave the Hershey Thousand Trails, we did not have a night on the road. It was a long day of driving, but much of the countryside was quite pretty - wooded hills and some cultivated areas.

We are staying at the Ontario County Park on Gannett Hill Road near Naples, NY.

We really have not traveled during the summer in an RV yet. We purchased Miss Daisy in July, 2014, and Dwayne drove her home but then we didn't really go out on the road with her until mid-September, and then returned to Dallas in April and sold her in May, 2015. We bought Miss Doozie one year ago today (July 1, 2015) in North Carolina, drove her to Virginia and stayed on the farm for a week or so, and then had her parked in the Sandy Lake RV Park near where our house was in Coppell until we moved in fulltime in October, 2015.

So, this is the first time we've really experienced "camping" in the summer, with all the other folks who also are out camping. In addition, we are in the northeast and dealing with parks that are a bit higher priced than we're used to dealing with (they can only be open a few months out of the year, so their rates seem to generally be higher).

We didn't exactly figure out that we should book time ahead of time for things like the 4th of July weekend - we knew it would be a busy time, but we just aren't that good about knowing where we'll be on any given date. To book a reservation a couple of months ahead of time would require putting a plan in place about where we would be on that date. When we discussed that we should probably have reservations for the Independence Day weekend, we said, "Oh, we'll just stay at WalMarts and be traveling."

When we started getting closer to the northeast (when we were in New Jersey), we made more definite plans about where we would be when, and we wanted to be able to stay in a park near Canandaigua so we could visit one of Patti's former co-workers and friend, Barbara. That brought the need to find a park with availability for a BUSY summer weekend that was just two weeks away!

While looking at AllStays, Patti saw a county park that was in the same county that we wanted. There wasn't any information about it on RVParkReviews, but she called and they had a space available. AllStays said "electric only, dump", so Patti said to the young man who took the reservation, "You have a dump station, right?" He responded, "Yes, we have a dumpster!"
Hmmm... this might be interesting....

We got to the park today and it is a gem. The site we are in is a bit unlevel (Miss Doozie's front tires are off the ground and we're still not level), but the other people staying here are very friendly and it is a beautiful spot. And... they do have a dump station!

We took a short hike this afternoon to the "Jump Off" point.

There is an overlook out the west side of the park.

Dwayne coming down the path to the overlook.

Beautiful!

My Sweetie is feeling better!

And getting some pictures of the view too!
